Förster

Oper in einem Akt

‘Der vorhang geht auf, der vorhang fällt.’
‘The curtain rises, the curtain falls.’

Tristan und Isolde is a four-hour opera for an orchestra of 100 musicians. Förster is a summary of this opera in four minutes, for one musician. The notes originate from the ‘vorspiel’ (before the curtain rises) and the ‘liebestod’ (after the curtain falls). After the vorspiel the partiture states: “der vorhang geht auf”, and then “der musikant sagt: der vorhang geht auf”. Then follows a silence. Then: “der vorhang fällt” and “der musikant sagt: der vorhang fällt”. Then follows the summary of the liebestod. After which follows: “ende”.
